Effective, cost-efficient reliable domestic and commercial wastewater treatment systems

If you are looking for an eco-friendly alternative to a traditional septic tank, the team at ActiveFlow can help design and install an effective, cost-efficient and reliable wastewater system for your home or commercial premises.
We are passionate believers in the power and utility of passive wastewater treatment systems for new dwellings, including septic tank replacement for existing houses and properties. We’re a family business that diversified from civil infrastructure projects after the Christchurch earthquakes - after helping to replace some of the city’s damaged sewer network.
Our key objective is to design you a wastewater system that is simple, effective, and efficient, and which you can understand and rely on.
Our systems have little or no power requirements and use minimal components in the treatment process, resulting in lower operating costs, greater peace of mind, and better environmental outcomes. We supply a range of high-quality sewage and water treatment systems from established and tested brands as well as rainwater harvesting tanks.

Three steps to your new wastewater system

ActiveFlow provides an end-to-end service from design to installation.

Onsite consultation and quote

The first step is an on-site consultation with our team. During the meeting we will assess:

  • the capacity of the dwelling/factory/enterprise in bedrooms or number of persons
  • the position of the dwelling
  • preferred treatment system location and disposal field area and any boundary lines
  • the topography to determine whether a powerless gravity-fed system is possible
  • soil type, water table heights, and suitable disposal field options
  • the desired outcome of disposal area
After the site visit we'll provide you with a quote for a system that meets your requirements and any site constraints and district and regional council requirements. Some of our customers ask us to quote for two or more options. If you require this, please let us know.

Wastewater Design and Consent

Once you've accepted the quote and paid a deposit, detailed design work will be completed. This includes applications for any resource consent. All our designs comply with AS/NZ 1547:2012 Standards; district council requirements; and regional council requirements. The completed document and all design work will be ready within three weeks of receiving the deposit. If you, or your builder, need help answering questions from the council, we are happy to assist

.

Installation and Maintenance

We can install your wastewater treatment system at most stages of the building process. However, it is often better to install before the drains are laid because the drains can be hooked up and immediately inspected, saving your drainlayer an extra trip. Once a date is scheduled we'll meet you on site to confirm final locations of the wastewater system and disposal field; access to the site; and notification of any hazards. The system is ready for commissioning just before operation commences.

When your new home is finished, and you’re moving in, give us a call and one of our team will meet you on site. We’ll give your system a final check and any required fine tuning and then run through the details of how your new system works with you. Once your system is up and running we offer on-going servicing and maintenance to ensure it works properly for many years to come.

Key questions about our wastewater systems

Is there a system suitable for my site?
Yes, we have a number of different options to cater for any site where a wastewater system is required.

Is your system power-free?
Most of our products are completely passive and don't use power during the treatment process which enhances reliability and low cost of operation.

Will my system need pumping out?
It depends on the option you choose but some do not need to be pumped out.

Will my system need servicing?
Most of our systems only require an annual service due to largely passive treatment processes.

Do I need a consent?
Yes, All wastewater systems require council consent. We will complete design work for the consent application.

How much will it cost?
This will depend on a number of factors such as dwelling size, number of bedrooms, site and soil conditions and constraints and local council regulations. This is why we provide a free site assessment and quote.

How long will it take to install?
Installation normally takes 2-4 days once consent has been approved and a start date has been organised.

What areas do you cover?
We are based in Canterbury and our qualified installers install throughout the South Island.
